Go - The Great Commission in Action
The Church in Here, the Church Out There
As followers of Christ, we are called to be the church both when we gather and when we go out into the world. Jesus designed the church not just as a place of worship but as a movement that reaches beyond walls into our communities and the world.
Understanding Our Mission: Go
Throughout Scripture, Jesus emphasized the importance of sharing the Gospel. His final command before ascending into heaven was clear:
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you." – Matthew 28:19-20
This is the Great Commission, and it applies to every believer—not just pastors, evangelists, or missionaries.
Overcoming the Fear of Evangelism
Many Christians hesitate to share their faith because they feel unqualified or fear rejection. Here are some key insights to help shift our perspective:
Evangelism isn’t just for extroverts. Introverts can be just as effective in sharing the Gospel, often connecting better with people who are also more reserved.
Your personal story matters. You don’t need a seminary degree—simply share what Jesus has done in your life.
You don’t have to be perfect. The Bible is full of flawed individuals God used to spread His message.
Two Essential Components Before We Go
A Personal Encounter with Jesus
Sharing Jesus starts with knowing Him personally.
If your faith has become routine, ask God for a renewed sense of His presence in your life.
The Power of the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8 reminds us that we receive power through the Holy Spirit to be effective witnesses.
The Holy Spirit guides conversations, prepares hearts, and gives us the words to say.
How to Be an Effective Ambassador for Christ
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:20, "We are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us." What does this mean?
Represent Christ well. Live a life that reflects His love and truth.
Build relationships. People are more likely to receive the Gospel from someone they trust.
Find common ground. Paul adapted his approach depending on his audience (1 Corinthians 9:22).
Have a ‘Yes Face.’ Be approachable and open to conversations about faith.
The Readiness Factor: When and How to Share
Not every moment is the right moment, but we should always be prepared:
Pray for wisdom. Ask God to show you the right opportunities.
Respect boundaries. If someone isn’t ready, don’t force the conversation—trust that God is working.
Remember the team effort. Some plant seeds, some water, and some harvest (1 Corinthians 3:6-8).
What’s Your Next Step?
As you reflect on this, is there someone God has placed on your heart? A friend, a coworker, or a family member who needs to hear the Good News? Pray for courage and look for ways to share your story with them.
Final Encouragement
Jesus calls us to go—not just inside our churches but into the world. The Great Commission is a command, not a suggestion. With the Holy Spirit’s power, we can confidently step into this calling and make a difference.
